Happy Birthday Rob!

Today is my brother's 20th birthday! I was going to buy him something but he asked me to draw him Doom (formally MF Doom) instead. Rob also goes to Kingston University and studies Interior Design.

River Island SS2012... A Small Preview

I had the pleasure of working with River Island again for their Spring/Summer 2012 in-store magazine! Here's a small preview of the illustrations I've been working on for them.

COS SS12 Look Book

Well I can't personally take the credit for Cos's latest Look Book Campaign... but! The music was created by my good friend, Fred Paginton of Youthfall. Fred is such a gent and showed so much interest in my work... and thoughtful enough to feature my illustrations his website, Kollektivnye. It seems only fair to spread the love of Youthfall on my humble blog in return. Check more of Fred out on the links provided!

Conde Nast Brides... A Very Small Preview

Between the long hours of designing and sewing my final collection,  I've been working on a commission for Conde Nast Brides Magazine. Without giving too much away, here is one of the illustrations I drew for part of the article!

It's always a pleasure to get involved with a new and challenging project... even when I've had to binge on Red Bull to keep the balance of being a Third Year Fashion Student and a Freelance Illustrator. Well... I guess anything is possible!

Look out for the full page spread in Conde Nast Brides Magazine in a few months time... will keep you posted!

Tribute to Pastel

Admittedly, I haven't really been channeling the pastel trend on myself this season... I wouldn't be the first fashion student to claim having an allergy to bright colours. Saying that, I appreciate baby tones from afar, like on this pastel-clad model on a current Armani advert.

Back to Being Scribs

I haven't really drawn 'for the sake of it' much recently... not that I would ever say I preferred writing my dissertation, ergh. Anyway, FINALLY after organizing future plans, planning my Final Collection, a bunch of commissions, and a disgusting long essay, I got some time to drink(down) some wine and draw for no other reason but out of enjoyment.

When everything you do day to day revolves around 'making something' it's so easy to forget that it really is meant to be a hobby as well as a supposed career path. I will post a few more of these illustrations-without-a-cause throughout the week or so.

Collette and Paul's Wedding 23rd Dec 2011

It was lovely to get the opportunity to illustrate a wedding so close to Christmas! Collette and Paul made sure it was a festive event to remember, "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.." could be heard from the church during their beautiful and very merry service.

The interior was adorned with candles and christmas trees; the reception served delicious mulled wine and of course, plenty of champagne. The food was delicious, the caterers were always attentive and guests were very welcoming.

Congratulations to Collette and Paul, I'm sure they will have a very happy, long-lasting, and fun-loving marriage! They were great hosts, and it was a privilege to illustrate their wedding day.

Here is a selection of the drawings I did on the day.

David Riches

A few months back, I featured some sketches my mum did while she was on a 'Girl's Gardening Trip' to Morocco.

I hope I don't appear too self-absorbed... but  I don't really use this blog to feature any other people's work but my own! Saying that, I think family can defy this rule, because my parents are my definitely biggest inspiration!

What you see above is the website, Vintage Archive created by my Dad, David Riches and his work-partner, Harry Villiers. Their new online shop contains hand-picked beautiful vintage pieces, uncovered from the depths of India.

My Dad (David) like my Mum (Helen) is formally trained in Graphic Design, and has since founded his own design consultancy, Visible Edge which he has run for over 20 years.

Also like my Mum, my Dad has a knack for multi-tasking, and an impulse for adventure, leading him to dive into other complimentary creative fields. He currently working in property development, and pouring his passion and energy into Vintage Archive.

I probably don't tell him enough, but he really is a great role-model, and a massive help when it comes to my own work!

For these reasons I thought I would feature his new project on my blog... as well as the fact I truly love the stuff him and Harry are selling!

So take a look and uncover some vintage treasures yourself!
